Parent of a student who has attended HI-STEP® Summer Social Skills Program (a program where POWER-Solving® is implemented)

As inferred by the title, “POWER-Solving” socially empowers our son in numerous ways. The tangible results are that our son has greatly improved his conversational skills, both initiative and responsive. He is confident in making comments, asking questions, and having appropriate conversations. Our son understands manners, and his eye contact is improved. He is more attuned to understanding his own feelings, emotions and responses, and those of others. He understands various situational social difficulties and has tools to use in resolving these issues. The intangible results appear very frequently in pleasantly, surprising, spontaneous ways through appropriate conversation and behavior.

Parent of two students who have attended HI-STEP® Summer Social Skills Program

My son and daughter have attended the HI-STEP Summer Program. This program has been instrumental in teaching my children strategies in problem solving especially in social arenas. The POWER-Solving curriculum gives our kids specific tools and steps to problem solve various social and non-social issues. My daughter used all the tools she had learned at HI-STEP. She has used the Problem Solving Program during her entire school year. She now also advocates for other special needs kids at her school. My son also uses the POWER-Solving Program for approaching homework assignments to participating in school events. It has also helped him in preparing for college and getting his driver’s permit. He has grown in confidence and has matured in his thought processing. He has made more of an effort to talk to his peers, teachers and family.

I have seen over the past few years a direct correlation to the children’s success in various social situations. The POWER-Solving Program builds confidence, Independence and provides tools for our kids who struggle especially socially. These new skills I know will help my kids in future employment and other social venues.
