About The Authors

Michael C. Selbst, Ph.D., BCBA-D

Michael C. Selbst, Ph.D., BCBA-D is the Director of Behavior Therapy Associates, P.A. He is a Licensed Psychologist and a Certified School Psychologist in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst at the Doctoral level.

Dr. Selbst attained his Masters in Education and Ph.D. in School Psychology from Temple University. Dr. Selbst has co-founded and is the Executive Director of HI-STEP® Summer Program, which is an intensive six-week day program for children and adolescents to improve their social skills and problem solving ability, and he is the Director of the Weekend to Improve Social Effectiveness (W.I.S.E.). Both programs focus on teaching social-emotional skills via small-group training, recreational activities, and cooperative problem-solving, within school- and natural environment settings.

He has extensive experience working with pre-school aged children through adults, including individuals who are gifted, have learning disabilities, social emotional and behavioral difficulties, and children with developmental delays, including those with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome. Dr. Selbst provides individual and family therapy, behavioral parent training, and social skills training.

Dr. Selbst consults to numerous public and private schools, assisting parents, teachers, and mental health professionals. He has expertise in conducting functional behavior assessments, developing behavior intervention plans, and completing psychoeducational, psychological, and independent program evaluations. He presents workshops on a variety of topics, having trained numerous educators, parents, and mental health professionals at statewide and national conferences, parent advocacy groups, school districts, and internationally.

Dr. Selbst has collaborated with three of Behavior Therapy Associates’ doctors to co-author the Behavior Problems Resource Kit: Forms and Procedures for Identification, Measurement and Intervention.


Steven B. Gordon, Ph.D., ABPP

Steven B. Gordon, Ph.D., ABPP is the Founder and Executive Director of Behavior Therapy Associates, P.A. He is a clinical psychologist and is licensed in New Jersey.

Dr. Gordon is also Board Certified in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and is a Diplomate in Behavior Therapy from the American Board of Behavioral Psychology. Dr. Gordon is on the faculty at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, Rutgers University where he has taught courses on adult and child behavior therapy for over 30 years and is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Dr. Gordon received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from West Virginia University, completed his pre-doctoral internship at the University of Washington Medical School and was a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Behavior Modification at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Dr. Gordon has co-authored four books, published numerous articles, presented papers at local and national conferences, and served on editorial boards of professional journals. He has co-authored with Michael Asher, Ph.D., ABPP Meeting the ADD Challenge: A Practical Guide for Teachers and The ADHD Forms Book: Identification, Measurement and Intervention. Most recently, Dr. Gordon has collaborated with three of Behavior Therapy Associates’ doctors to co-author the Behavior Problems Resource Kit: Forms and Procedures for Identification, Measurement and Intervention.

Dr. Gordon’s professional interests include providing assessment and treatment for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD and other disruptive behavior disorders associated with childhood and adolescence. He has co-founded and is the Executive Director of HI-STEP Summer Program, which is an intensive six-week day program for children and adolescents to improve their social skills and problem solving ability.

In addition, Dr. Gordon has had extensive experience providing clinical services not only for children diagnosed with phobias, stress, selective mutism, obsessive compulsive disorders and depression, but also with adults coping with anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties.
